October 20. On this date in 1819, ‘Alí-Muhammad (later known as the Báb) was born in Shiraz to a merchant family. His father, Siyyid Muhammad Ridá, was a prominent mercer of the city, and his mother, Fátimih Bagum, was also a daughter of the famous merchant Mírzá Siyyid Muhammad Husayn.
