January 20. On this date in 1882, Bahá'u'lláh wrote the Tablet of Maqṣúd. On February 7, 2001, an individual asked the Universal House of Justice the "Two great powers" referred to in the Lawh-i-Maqsúd. On May 1, 2001, the Universal House of Justice replied "it is suggested that the two powers referred to by Bahá'u'lláh in the Lawh-i-Maqsúd as being persecutors of the Jews would appear to be France and Russia."

January 20. On this date in 1882, Bahá'u'lláh wrote the Tablet of Maqṣúd.

The translation of this work into English is in a style reminiscent of the King James Bible, perhaps to give the work an air of religiosity that a native English speaker would be familiar with. Consider the opening lines...

He is God, exalted is He, the Lord of Majesty and Power

A PRAISE which is exalted above every mention or description beseemeth the Adored One, the Possessor of all things visible and invisible, Who hath enabled the Primal Point to reveal countless Books and Epistles and Who, through the potency of His sublime Word, hath called into being the entire creation, whether of the former or more recent generations.
